Weekend Recap and Goals for the Week

This entry isn't going to be very long because I'm super tired today and my thoughts aren't the most coherent. So bear with me.

Let me start out by saying this weekend could've been a LOT worse.

Now that that's out of the way, this weekend was pretty bad. I went into it with the best of intentions, I truly did. Let's discuss what Jen did right:

- brought healthy snacks to the movie theatre Friday
- got a kids' turkey sandwich, applesauce, and carrots for lunch at Disney Saturday

And just for funsies, here's the bad stuff:

- about 20 PP worth of alcohol Saturday, including a 10-PP bloody mary
- a salad Saturday night that ended up being way more PP than I planned because of the huge slab of salmon I ate every last bit of
- half a burger, a crap ton of fries, a piece of fudge, and peanut M&Ms Sunday
- snacking mindlessly on chips, nuts, crackers, and other BS last night

So like I said...could've been much worse. And the food itself isn't awful, but on top of fairly low activity this weekend, the lack of tracking all those BLTs (bites, licks, and tastes) is no bueno. Weekends kill me, seriously, especially when fun things are going on. I need to buckle my butt down.

The plan for the rest of this week is to stay OP and let myself splurge a bit on Saturday during Danielle's wedding. I'm not sure what kind of food there will be, but I know she has an open bar and cake calling my name. I want to have a week full of blue and green stickers so I don't feel so guilty splurging a little.

Gym tonight with Katlyn. First run since Thursday. Wish me luck...planning on spending most of the run trying not to fall on my face from exhaustion.

Yea, life has a way of being lumpy but yea, your butt and the buckling thing... make it happen. You have the power.

Rock the run! If you fall on your face... I'll just give the stage to courage wolf.

Thanks George. It has been tough these past couple weeks, but I will get there.

LOL I will keep this in mind. Maybe imagining him chasing me will do the trick. :p

Yeahhhhh alcohol in and of itself isn't so terrible...but it tends to be a gateway drug to things like Taco Bell...for me at least, lol.

Good luck lady. Today is shot for me, sadly, but at least I ran.

I think once you start training for the marathon, your weekends may get easier because you won't want to undue all that hard work from those long runs. As I just posted on my blog, I'm feeling a little lost now that I am not training for a marathon. I need the structure of a plan and this winging it thing isn't working. For some reason, I eat far worse when I am not running a crap ton of miles. When I can offer to eat crap because I'll burn it off I have no desire to. *sigh*

I can't wait until June!! :)

I think you're right. I have thought about that. I'm pretty sure a part of my brain is telling me to "live it up" a little with food and whatnot while I still can because I have a feeling marathon training is going to propel me to my goals more quickly. I can't help wanting to "party" now. Like tonight I wanted to really buckle down, but I didn't. I made it to the gym and ran my 5K distance, but I'm doing SO badly with food these past few days. Snacking on whatever I want, whenever I want, not paying attention to portions, etc. It's awful, and I feel so blah. On normal nights like tonight, there is really no excuse to go over my points, and I'm doing it anyway out of sheer laziness. :-/

That makes a LOT of sense, re: more running = healthier eating. I mean, you would think it'd be the opposite, but I'm the same way. I don't want to undo all my hard work. Whereas if I'm being a lazy ass, I'm a lazy ass all the way through. Lol. I haven't run since Thursday before today, and it seems like the more days pass between hitting the gym, the slipperier and slipperier my food slope gets. I commented on your entry, but I'll ask here too - are there any longer races in the near future you could sign up for? I know we have the Earth Day 12K (which, by the way, I can drive us to if you want!), but maybe there's an upcoming half?

Oh before I forget - do you know where I can score a deal on one of those Camelbak (or any good brand, really) water backpacks? I am seeing $100+ and hot damn, that's a lot. On top of the marathon fee (not to mention my other race fees - haven't blogged about these yet, but I plan on doing both the Color Run 5K and the OUC half in December, which are on the Saturday and Sunday the first weekend in December...luckily the Color Run 5K is Saturday, otherwise it would not be happening), the training-program, fee shoes I'll undoubtedly have to replace once or twice, Bluetooth headphones I'm going to purchase, restocking energy gels, etc. this goal of mine is going to get out of hand financially very quickly.

Unless I travel out of Florida, the only races between now and June are shorter ones because it's not feasible to run longer in the Florida heat. I am doing a half marathon on 4/14 that my running group puts on, but I won't really be racing it since I have that 12K the following weekend and a 5K the week after that. I don't really want to race anything long right now because I know my body needs the break, but I just miss the training. I miss the discipline required to train for a marathon and feel like such a slacker for just winging it right now. I may end up registering for a 10K in May at UCF but it will be hot so I don't know.

I really want to do the Color Run 5K but I was planning on doing back-to-back half marathons that weekends so I am waiting to see what the schedule is like when they activate the link. Wait to register for any races after June until you get your training schedule. You want to make sure none of them fall during one of your marathon long runs because those will be hard to rescheduled to do on your own. Wait, the Color Run is Sat? Because OUC is usually on Sat.

You may try http://runningwarehouse.com/ for running gear. Is there a reason you want a backpack rather than a belt? Do you want it for the race or training? The race has ample water stops, so you wouldn't need that much for the race and for the training we have water stops every 2-3 miles, so a small handheld bottle you can refill would be sufficient when it's hot. When it's cooler out, I don't carry anything in training and just drink at our water stops.

Before you go buy all this stuff, let's talk. I may have extras of things I never use anymore that you can borrow/buy or that I can advice you about based on experience. I have owned so many things that I later hated and learned to do without and others that I never knew I needed.

Oh and I may take you up on that offer to ride to 12K since I don't think Jason will be there :( what am I going I do without my personal paparazzi? Is it out of your way though? I'll let you know because a girl from my group that lives down the street may be going too though we could all meet at my place and go together. So exited!

Ugh yeah true. And I guess none of them start at 4 a.m. like our AWESOME UPCOMING GALLOWAY TRAINING RUNS. I'm glad you are letting your body rest instead of pushing it when you shouldn't. That's a great thing. What's the UCF 10K in May? Maybe if it starts early enough I'll do it. IDK though...judging by how hot it is already, ehhh. But I mean, that 12K is at the end of April...can't be that much worse, right? Watch me eat my words. Hopefully they taste good.

Oops I already signed up for a post-June race, but it's the zombie one, which I am just...not missing. Lol. No way, man. xD And it is on a Saturday unfortunately, so I'll have to figure that out. I'll hold off otherwise though. There are other Saturdays I won't be able to help missing though - I'll be out of town at a wedding Saturday, June 30, and again the weekend of Sept. 15. And over Christmas weekend. Other than that, though, my Saturdays look pretty free. I am going to try my best to limit out-of-townness but some stuff is unavoidable, unfortunately.

Oh crap I was looking at the 2011 OUC date. Yeah the 2012 OUC Half is Sat., Dec. 1 and the Color Run is the next day, Sun. the 2nd. Might not be the best idea for me to do both but IDK. If I am training for a marathon, maybe I can hang. What do you think?

I guess a belt wouldn't be bad, it just seems awkward to run with, IDK. Have you tried both? Also BUT THIS IS PINK! Lol. I am used to running with water the entire time and I think I like that...sometimes a little sip of water is all it takes to keep me going. And for the times I am adapting to running long distances in the humidity, I'd like to have it if I can. Also this way if I'm in a running groove, I don't have to stop and fight for water. Maybe I will try out just my bottle at first and see how it works before purchasing a belt or backpack. It may be fine. We will talk.

Yeah that's totally fine for us to ride together! IDK how out of the way it is but it's not that big a deal. Your house is only 15-20 min. from me. :o)

Yeah, I think I may not doing it just because I said no races in May, but then once marathon training starts I won't be racing again until at least September so maybe I'll do it. We'll see how I feel after my 5K at the end of April.

We do have a few OYO weekends in the schedule were we don't run as a group, although most of us run unofficially anyway. You can miss some of the shorter long runs, but you want to avoid races during weekends when we have really long ones that are hard to do on your own and also because truly racing too much during marathon training is detrimental. The schedule will be up in June and you can plan then. OUC is an OYO weekend, but you want to see when your long run that month is because that is probably the month when you will need to run your 23 or 26 mile long run so racing a half may not be advisable unless you do it as a training run. Doing a 5K the day after a half might be ok, again depending how hard you go at the half.

As for hydration, I have a fuel belt for running and have tried the backpack for biking but not running. I think mine is that same one you linked, so you could try it out before you buy it. It's kinda big and heavy and I don't think I would like the backpack while running because my back and shoulders are usually sore enough as it is. I really hate running with either, but do wear my belt with 1 bottle during really long runs sometimes so I can drink on my schedule and refill at our water stops. They are actual stops, so you won't have to fight anyone for it. I know that for the actual race I did not want anything weighing me down. So yeah, before you spend the money, try some long runs with just your bottle and see how that goes.

Ok, sounds good re riding with you to 12k. Let's touch base as it gets closer. I'll want to get there early to run a warm up mile before the race, and to get our packets.

Gotcha.

OK I will wait and see when the June schedule is up. I may skip the half, but I reeeeally want to do that Color Run. I will drag my ass to it if I have to, lol.

Thanks, I am going to try the belt. Do you have the backpack you used when biking? I am kind of curious to see how I like both of those.

Kk sounds good! ♥

Yeah, I still have that backpack if you want to give it a try. Use the water bottle for now and see how you like that for long runs or do you already have a fuel belt you can try too? Neither option is cheap, so make sure you will use it before you buy. The main reason I bought the belt was when I was doing long runs on my own, but with the group I rarely need it. I could get by with a handheld but I don't like carrying anything on my hands either.

Doing the Color Run should be fine, specially since it's just a 5K for fun and I don't think it's even timed. I want to do that race too, but need to know more info about where and what time and it will depend on if I do a half that day or not.

Oh yeah definitely, thanks! We'll see how the bottle holds up. I don't have a fuel belt, no. I appreciate you letting me try those out if I need more sustenance! I don't mind carrying a bottle but it's tempting to free my hands...

True true. I probably won't try and PR at all anyway. I just want to do it for funsies.

Thanks! "Back on track" is a loose phrase at this point, lol, I am going to be up weight today...but I am sticking to my runs at least. Going to work a little harder on the food part this week. :o)
